Martinus Claassen (54), better known as oom (uncle) Theunis, was born and bred on the farm Windheuwel.
Windheuwel, a cattle farm at the time, was subsequently subdivided into three properties, which were sold off. They are Flower Valley, Witvoetskloof and Berg-en-Dal.
Although the farm changed hands no fewer than 12 times, oom Theunis never left. He represents the third generation living on the same land, which he loves dearly. He says he wants to grow old here.
He works as a tractor driver on Flower Valley farm and specialises in cutting fire breaks and grading roads. His services are also contracted out to neighbouring farms.
Oom Theunis is part and parcel of the history of the farm. His wisdom and advice are highly valued at Flower Valley.
